Training courses offered by NCVYS

NCVYS’s training provision is continually developing and is set to further develop over the next few months. Training is delivered either by experienced NCVYS staff or one of our skilled training consultants who have extensive experience in the voluntary and community and statutory youth sectors. We offer open courses as well as bespoke courses, depending on your training needs. So far, NCVYS’s training has received excellent feedback from participants:

Safeguarding training

There continues to be demand for the safeguarding courses NCVYS has been delivering to the voluntary and community sector for some time.

A selection of these courses are:

• Safer working practice in your organisation and  Supporting safer working practice in your communities –
  These two day courses are accredited at Level 3 and are suited to staff and volunteers working with young people who hold safeguarding responsibilities. It covers the key principles legislation and policies involved in safeguarding and will enable learners to develop a partnership approach to working with other organisations to safeguard young people
  

• Sound Systems: Introduction to safeguarding – a one-day course which gives a brief overview of various elements of safeguarding, including defining child abuse, dealing with disclosures, policy writing and safe activities.

• Child protection awareness – a one-day course which begins to look at what constitutes as abuse and how to deal with allegations, suspicions and disclosures of abuse. 

• Child protection policy writing – can be delivered as a half-day course after the one-day child protection awareness training, or as a full day on its own. It covers some of the basic principles of writing a child protection policy and what should be included.

• The role of the designated worker - a one-day course which looks at the role and responsibilities of the nominated child protection worker in a voluntary or community organisations.

These courses can be brought or as in-house to your organisation as standalone courses or complementary training alongside Sound Systems Accreditation.

Sound Systems promotes and accredits good practice in accordance with the ‘Keeping it Safe’ standards by:

• encouraging all voluntary and community organisations that work with children and young people to develop policy and procedures that ensure the safety of children and young people in their care;

• accrediting their policies and procedures against nationally agreed standards (‘Keeping it Safe’);

• and ensuring that good practice is widely recognised by providing the Sound Systems kitemark  for accredited organisations to use.

Other courses around any area of safeguarding can be delivered for your organisation, or developed if we do not currently run a particular course. Examples of recently requested courses include planning safer residentials, an anti-bullying course. We also have a course on how to deal with bullying currently being developed. 

The courses can be delivered in-house at your organisation for a group of up to 16 participants. Alternatively, you can inquire about dates for our open courses should there be a small number of individuals from your organisation wanting to access the training.

NCVYS supports organisations that work with young people to critically examine their policies and practice with regards to youth participation. NCVYS also assists organisations in the development of strategies that will increase young people’s participation.

Introduction to youth participation – a one-day course, which looks at definitions of youth participation and why it is important; barriers to youth participation and how to overcome them; and also introduces some practical methods for developing young people’s participation in organisations.
